Sewers Museum
Membrane urbaine at the sewers museum
During the Nuit Blanche 2026 and until September 2026, the museum hosts Membrane Urbaine, a work by artist Mathild Clerc-Verhoeven. This installation takes the form of several abstract sculptures woven in carbon or polyester. It obeys a fundamental principle inspired by the very functioning of the cleaning tools of the sanitation network : the sculptures are set in motion either by human action or by hydraulic energy. Each of them is a bridge between different practices: sewer maintenance, weaving crafts, woodworking… Textiles are omnipresent and come in many forms. It brings a dynamic dimension to the creations by harmonizing with the reflections, lights and shadows of the galleries.
The whole is accompanied by a soundscape consisting of the voices of sewer workers and a text by the writer Jasper Coppes that highlights the different dimensions addressed: the lived experience of sewer workers, feedback mechanisms, the flow of fluids and information.
