Sewers Museum
New exhibition : Bathing in the Seine, a long story !
On the occasion of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games scheduling open-water bathing events in the Seine, the Sewer museum is offering an exhibition tracing the history of bathing in Paris.
How did people bathe in the Seine ? Why did bathing gradually disappear ? What is the link between sanitation, water quality and bathing ? The exhibition Bathing in the Seine, provides answers to all these questions, looking back over three centuries of bathing and questions surrounding the river, through key themes : regulations governing the right to bathe, social practices observed since the 17th century, and finally, the actions taken by public authorities to make the dream of plunging back into the Seine a reality. With a nod to Paris, capital of fashion, the exhibition also presents the bathing outfits imagined over times and practices.
On view until Tuesday December 31, 2024 during museum opening hours. Included in the Sewers museum entrance.
